We strongly believe that languages are a skill for life and that being able to speak another language is a wonderful benefit. Not only is choosing a GCSE in a language useful for travelling, it is also a great advantage for university and career prospects; being able to speak a language will make you really stand out. Acquiring a GCSE in a foreign language also develops various other skills such as improved memory and a better knowledge of our first language.
English is not enough! Not everyone speaks or wants to speak English and in GCSE languages we aim to further expand our students' cultural knowledge as we know that this promotes greater tolerance, empathy, and acceptance of others.
At GCSE, core language & structures covered at KS3 are revisited and consolidated so from the outset pupils already know more than they think. Range of language and structures are expanded so that all learners can reach their potential. Italian GCSE covers a wide range of topics and we aim to enable our learners to communicate to the best of their ability across all the specified topics.
Pupils will be examined at the end of the course in all 4 skills (listening, reading, writing and speaking). These along with other key skills such as vocabulary learning, developing fluency, translation, coping with complex texts and unfamiliar language are regularly developed and consolidated in lessons. Language classes are still fun and interactive but the content is covered at a slightly quicker pace.
The exam board that we use is AQA and you can find more information regarding the Italian GCSE on the following link:
